Torus
What's in the middle where the pot isn't?

 

I'll rephrase the question.  What exactly is a torus? It's a surface of revolution generated by revolving a circle in three-dimensional space about an axis coplanar with the circle.

 

OK, forget that and just concentrate on what it means. Something is everywhere. Period. So a hole of nothing isn't exactly nothing. There is something in that hole, depending on where you put it.
